An Ancient Chinese Method

Cupping is an ancient Chinese method of causing local congestion. However, its use is also recorded in Egypt and Ancient Greece. A partial vacuum is created in cups placed on the skin either by means of heat or suction. This draws up the underlying tissues. When the cup is left in place on the skin for a few minutes, blood is drawn through the area. An idea akin to 'stirring up the waters of a muddy pond to get the water to flow again'.
